W3 Generators is an icon generator built on the Font Awesome icon set. Visitors search the library, customise an icon and download it as a royalty-free PNG, straight from the browser.
The challenge
Designers and developers regularly need a single icon as an image file, for a slide, an email signature or a mockup. Icon fonts like Font Awesome are perfect inside code, but awkward when all you want is a PNG of one icon.
The tool needed to make that step painless: pick from hundreds of icons, adjust it, download it, with no design software and no account.
The solution
W3 Generators puts the full Font Awesome 4.7 set, more than 670 icons, on a single searchable page. Visitors find the icon they need, customise it and download it as a royalty-free PNG in a couple of clicks.
It is deliberately small: one page, one job, served from a lightweight PHP setup, with share buttons for Facebook and Twitter so the tool can travel on its own. Keeping it this simple is what makes it quick to load and easy to come back to.
